Schäflein AG grows in contract logistics

New location and comprehensive services

Röthlein / Schweinfurt – Schäflein AG is consistently expanding its position as a leading provider of logistics solutions and continuing on its growth path. Over the last few decades, Schäflein has developed from a pure haulage company into a full-service logistics provider that now covers all areas of inbound and outbound logistics. With over 500,000 square metres of logistics space in Germany, Austria and Poland and a comprehensive range of services, the company is ideally positioned to support industrial and retail customers with customised solutions.

“Our strategy is clear: we want to continue to grow, acquire new customers and attract international companies to Mainfranken. With our central location in Europe and an end-to-end logistics strategy, we offer our customers optimum conditions for efficiency and scalability,” explains Achim Schäflein, CEO of Schäflein AG.

New site in Gerolzhofen expands capacities

At the turn of the year, Schäflein opens a new logistics centre in Gerolzhofen. The state-of-the-art facility covers 25,000 square metres and complements the existing capacities in the Mainfranken region, which now amount to over 200,000 square metres. Industrial goods and consumer goods in particular are stored, picked, packed and distributed here via CargoLine’s Europe-wide network.

The Gerolzhofen site is part of a larger strategy aimed at the targeted expansion of logistics capacities. With now 36 locations in contract logistics – from Berlin to the Black Forest, from North Rhine-Westphalia to eastern Germany as well as in Poland and Austria – Schäflein offers a nationwide presence that enables customers to handle their logistics processes quickly and reliably.

Warehouse logistics: a successful model with a future

Warehouse logistics has been a key growth driver for Schäflein since the turn of the millennium. What started out small has developed into a comprehensive network over the last two decades. In addition to the freight forwarding terminal in Röthlein, a strategically important hub, Schäflein now manages logistics areas that are designed to meet a wide range of customer requirements. These locations serve as distribution centres from which goods are efficiently dispatched throughout Europe.

Today, 60% of dispatch volumes are handled directly from Schäflein’s own sites – a figure that is growing continuously. This emphasises the increasing importance of contract logistics in the company’s portfolio and Schäflein’s successful development into a full-service provider.

Inbound logistics: perfect supply for industry

Special attention is paid to inbound logistics, the synchronised supply of industrial companies with vendor parts. Schäflein operates supra-regional warehouse locations for this purpose, which are strategically located throughout Germany, Poland and Austria. These locations serve as central transhipment and supply points for suppliers from all over the world. Incoming materials and components are stored here, picked and delivered in sequence directly to the production lines in accordance with customer call-offs.

“Our task is to supply our customers’ production lines reliably and punctually. This requires not only excellent logistics, but also a high degree of flexibility and modern technologies,” emphasises Achim Schäflein.

Schäflein fulfils these requirements with highly automated warehouse solutions such as AutoStore, shuttle and miniload systems, which ensure efficient and flexible warehousing. This service is sometimes provided seven days a week and in three-shift operation – perfectly synchronised with the customer’s production cycles.

IT integration as the key to success

One of Schäflein’s greatest strengths is its high-performance IT infrastructure, which is provided by its subsidiary EIKONA. With over 100 system developers, EIKONA is one of the leading IT logistics companies in Germany. The systems enable seamless integration into customers’ complex ERP environments and offer maximum transparency thanks to end-to-end tracking and tracing functions.

One of EIKONA’s highlights is the HABBL digital solution, which is used by haulage companies throughout Europe. “Our IT is the backbone of our services. It enables us to implement complex requirements quickly and precisely – for us and our customers,” adds Achim Schäflein.

Value-added services and specialised solutions

In addition to traditional warehouse and transport logistics, Schäflein offers a range of specialised services that are tailored to the individual needs of customers:

  • Reusable container management: Through its subsidiary sprintBOX, Schäflein has been cleaning reusable containers such as KLTs and GLTs in modern continuous washing systems for over 20 years. With an IT-supported solution, sprintBOX ensures maximum transparency in large supplier cycles. Customers also benefit from rental and leasing models that eliminate the need to invest in containers – pay-per-use is the keyword here.
  • Value-added services: Schäflein takes on production-related manufacturing and assembly work, including the packaging of steel and aluminium products or the assembly of complete medical technology products. These services are supplemented by quality controls and logistics processes.

LOCIT: Guarantee for successful projects

The LOCIT consulting team with over 20 experts guarantees the successful realisation of new projects. From site development and process planning to IT integration, LOCIT supports every step of the project. “With LOCIT, we ensure that our customer projects are realised on time and to the highest quality,” explains Schäflein.

BOSCH Supplier Award: Recognising top performance

Schäflein AG has been honoured with the BOSCH Supplier Award. This recognition emphasises the many years of successful cooperation with one of the world’s leading industrial companies. Schäflein provides comprehensive services for BOSCH in the areas of transport, warehouse logistics, container management, value-added services and IT. The award is the result of many successfully realised logistics projects and demonstrates the high quality and reliability that Schäflein offers its customers.

Schäflein: A strong medium-sized company with a clear strategy

Schäflein AG is a family-run, medium-sized company in its third generation. With 36 logistics locations in Germany, Austria and Poland, Schäflein manages a total of over 500,000 square metres of logistics space. Around 2,500 employees generate an annual turnover of 260 million euros.

“In recent years, we have consistently focussed our company on the customer. Our aim is to be a reliable partner that enables growth and scalability,” summarises Achim Schäflein. With innovative solutions, modern technologies and a strong team, Schäflein believes it is ideally positioned to continue playing a leading role in the logistics sector in the coming years.
